Rise Up incorporates natural plant material transformed into something divine and holy by Ana Liz’s use of the gold leaf. A sense of movement is created in the piece through the strong diagonal through the center of the composition, the texture of which recalls a sandstorm that wipes clean the slate, which blots out the sky. The title calls to us to overcome fear, adversity, and exhaustion, and to make our way through the storm and out the other side.
