  • Beyond, 2021

Acrylic, bougainvillea flowers, collected leaves, seashells, palm leaves, sand, glue, modeling paste, and gold leaves on canvas.

    120 x 120 x 3 cm

  • The form of Beyond is reminiscent of Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty (1970), which was a prescient work that changed art’s relationship to the planet and to the wider world outside of the gallery. It resembles a circular path, which is generally the form that all journeys in life take. There is a sense of return, but also of forwarding movement. The use of flowers, leaves, and seashells in the work demonstrates the importance of the natural world in the artist’s own journey.
